Matala
Matala is a village approximately 27 km away from Agia Galini. Matala is mainly known for the Hippies that lived here in caves during the sixties. Make a tour in the caves above the beach or saunter stroll around the little streets of Matala.
A real insider hint is the “Red Beach“. The marvellous, red sandy beach can be reached by a walk of twenty minutes from Matala. The path to the beach has been marked by signposts, walk over the hill and arrive in a breathtaking bay that invites you to spend your day right there.
Agios Pavlos
The beautiful beach of Agios Pavlos is approximately 23 km from Irini Mare. You can access the area by driving from the villages Akoumia or Sachtouria.
It's a peaceful place, well-hidden in a sheltered bay, which is ideal for family holidays. The bay has a beautiful beach with green deep waters and magnificent rocky seabed. Basic services are provided on the beach, such as umbrellas, sunbeds and pedal boats.
Agios Giorgos
Agios Giorgos beach is only 6km away from Agia Galini, which makes it ideal for a short excursion. The beach is mainly pebbly, and it is separated in two bays by a rocky shore. The water in Agios Giorgos is crystal blue and the weather is almost always mild. The beach took its name from the chapel of Agios Giorgos (Saint George) which is famous for its wall paintings.
Komos
Kommos beach is over 2km long and it is covered with deep golden sand backed by natural dunes and cliffs topped with tamarisk trees. It is a paradise for naturists as the protected sea turtles Caretta Caretta nest in the sand of the beach, from May to September. A beautiful sunset waits for you there, especially from the backyard of the little chapel on the top of the hill.
Triopetra
Triopetra is a beautiful beach about 29 km from Agia Galini, nearby the village Akoumia. It is a very long sandy beach with refreshing water, as is open to the sea. Triopetra, meaning three stones, took its name by the three rocks in alignment on the left side of the main beach, which seem to emerge from the sea.
Agiofarago
The beach of Agiofarago is located at the exit of the homonym Gorge of Agiofarago. To get there you must either cross the gorge, by easy hiking of about 30-40’, or catch a boat from Agia Galini. Although you will need to drive about 36 km, a part of the ride is off road, in order to arrive at the beginning of the gorge, we definitely recommend this option, as the route within the vertical walls of the gorge is breathtaking. On the way you will see the large caves were some hermits lived and the chapel of St. Antonios, with a well outside where you can drink water.
The beach at the exit of the gorge is stunning, with fine pebbles and clear blue waters, which are usually very calm. On the right side of the beach a beautiful arch is formed, beneath which you can swim.
